Adoption Information

Find out how to adopt a pet quick & easy
  • How do I adopt a pet?

    • After scrolling through the Ukiah Animal Shelters pets and you see a pet you like, please email us at for more information.
    • If you would like us to make some recommendations for you, for instance if you are looking for a medium-sized dog who is good with kids and other dogs, please contact us at and we will help find the best match for you and your family.
  • Are there any adoption requirements?

The Ukiah Animal Shelter requires you to have all your dogs licensed and if you rent your home/apartment you must provide landlord permission that you can have a pet. Some pets have special requirements and living arrangements, so be sure to let us know what type of pet you are looking for to ensure the pet you are interested would be a good match.

  • Where are the adoptable pets located?

The majority of the Ukiah Animal Shelter pets are located at 298 Plant Road, Ukiah, CA. All pets (besides those in foster care) can be viewed during their business hours, which are Tuesday-Saturday 10am-5pm with Wednesdays open late until 7pm. All adoptions will need to be completed 30 minutes prior to closing to ensure staff leave on time.

  • What will my new pet come with?

Through Ukiah Animal Shelter, all pets will be spayed or neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations.

  • How much is the adoption fee?

Through the Ukiah Animal Shelter, dog and cat adoption fees run between $120-$160. When the shelter is full, there often are specials on the adoption fees, so be sure to ask. Cats in particular can have an adoption fee of only $40 as there often is cat overcrowding. Senior pets are often discounted. If a pet is fully or partially sponsored (which means a kind community member paid for that pet’s adoption fee), they will be featured on our Sponsored Pets page.
